Cleard handles identity documents and biometric checks on behalf of real estate agencies. This page sets out how that information is treated and what is still being finalised.

Who this covers

Cleard is software used by Australian real estate agencies to meet their anti-money laundering and counter-terrorism financing (AML/CTF) obligations. When an agency uses Cleard to verify a vendor or a buyer, the agency is the entity with the obligation, and Cleard processes the information to carry out that verification on the agency's behalf.

If you are a vendor or buyer who received a verification link, the agency selling or purchasing the property is who holds the compliance obligation. Cleard is the tool they used.

What is collected

To verify identity, Cleard collects the identity document a person photographs, the data read from it, a liveness capture used to confirm a real person is present, and the result of matching that capture against the document portrait. It records when each step happened and which case it belongs to.

From agencies, Cleard collects the ordinary account information needed to run the service: names, work contact details and the properties or cases the agency creates.

Why it is kept

Because the law requires it. Customer due diligence records have to be retained for seven years from the end of the business relationship, and a verification an agency cannot later produce is of no use to it. That is the reason the record is append only: an audit trail that can be edited afterwards does not evidence anything.

Who it is shared with

Identity verification depends on specialist providers for document reading, liveness detection and biometric matching, and on the government document verification service where an agency uses it. Information is shared with those providers only to perform the check the agency asked for.

Cleard does not sell personal information, and does not use identity documents or biometric captures for advertising, profiling, or training models.

What is still being finalised

Cleard is pre-launch. Data residency, retention tooling and the specific sub-processor list are being finalised, and this page will state them plainly once they are settled rather than in advance. Every other factual claim on this site carries a named source, and security claims are held to the same standard: if it is not stated here, treat it as not yet committed to.

If your agency needs those specifics before committing, ask. A straight answer, including where the answer is “not yet”, is more useful to a reporting entity than a confident one.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask what information is held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or raise a complaint about how it has been handled. Requests about a specific property transaction are usually best directed to the agency that engaged you, since they hold the compliance record. Cleard will assist the agency in responding.
